This research study is prepared under supervision of Dr. Barry King and Dr. Pete Williams of University of North Alabama as an independent study on identifying middlemen functions in distribution networks and comparing a new distribution model based on RugBird.com™ with existing model in global oriental rug business.
The business models mentioned in this research are put together in SmartChann™ Software. However, only selected futures of the findings are offered at RugBird.com as membership based web services.
This study is based on all formal and informal work done between 2000 and 2004 on oriental rug distribution chain from Turkey to the U.S. I believe global oriental rug trading is an ideal business segment to observe middlemen functions. The reasons for this are: 1. The distribution chain consists of many rings 2. The business practices are very much traditional based and impact of use of Internet has high contrast with existing network structure
This research has been very useful in terms of developing SmartChann™ and RugBird.com web services as electronic business platforms for rug industry.
